Where to drink in Bermondsey

8 places to drink in Bermondsey, each one on the Guide on merit.

  1. 40 Maltby Street

    40 Maltby Street

    Wine bar

A natural-wine warehouse wedged into a railway arch where the menu is a chalkboard that changes every week and nobody takes your booking.

They do not take bookings, so turn up early in the week or right on opening to get a table.

  2. Anspach & Hobday: The Arch House

Anspach & Hobday: The Arch House

    Brewery taproom

The arch where Anspach and Hobday started before Croydon took the kettles, now a dozen keg lines deep under the railway.

Saturday is the one full open day. Get there early for the nitro London Black before the Mile crowds arrive.

  3. Bermondsey Corner

    Bermondsey Corner

Natural wine & cheese bar · European

A counter-only Bermondsey Street wine bar where the natural list changes constantly and the summer terrace borrows White Cube's courtyard.

Counter seating only inside, so come in summer for the terrace on the White Cube side.

  4. Bianca Road Brew Co.

    Bianca Road Brew Co.

    Brewery taproom

A railway-arch taproom on the Beer Mile, recently rescued and expanded by five mates who crowdfunded the bigger space.

It is a Beer Mile stop, so go on a Saturday when the arches and the outdoor space are in full swing.

  5. Kanpai London

    Kanpai London

Sake brewery / taproom · Asian

The first sake brewery in the UK, making modern British sake on Druid Street with tastings and the odd Wagyu omakase night. A genuine one-off on the Bermondsey beer mile.

Head up to the mezzanine, a viewing platform that looks straight over the brewing tanks.

  6. Nine Lives

    Nine Lives

    Tropical cocktail bar

A basement that thinks it is a beach bar, in the best way. Come for the mezcal and stay for the DJ.

Book ahead for weekends. It is small and fills fast once the DJ starts.

  7. The Kernel, Spa Road

    The Kernel, Spa Road

    Brewery taproom

The brewery that started the Bermondsey Beer Mile, in a big semi-industrial taproom off Spa Road, pouring its own pale ales, table beer and stouts at fair prices, with a serious Japanese izakaya kitchen in residence.

Book for Yagi Izakaya's karaage, shokupan prawn toast and taleggio katsu, Wednesday to Sunday; chef Chris Wright is due to leave in early 2027, so go before then.

  8. These Days

    These Days

    Cocktail bar

A railway-arch spritz bar with St John bread and Neal's Yard cheese a few doors down.

Grab a seat outside the arch on a sunny afternoon and start with the Sundown Spritz.
