Gabrielle Goliath: Elegy

Exhibition

Three films of women singing a single sustained note until their breath gives out, then another voice takes over. The work commemorates a South African femicide victim, victims of the Namibian genocide, and a Palestinian poet and those killed in Gaza. The pitch-black basement space at Ibraaz fills with a discordant, clashing wail that stays with you long after. This is the work censored from the South African Pavilion in Venice, now in London until 17 January 2027.

It is installed in the Minassa sonic chamber at Ibraaz.
